Time Management Reflection
Reflecting on my time management during my project last semester helped me identify both productive habits and areas where I need to improve.
Strengths:
1. Strong conceptual development - I dedicated significant time to researching ideas, theory, and artists before making work, ensuring that the final pieces had a clear conceptual foundation.
2. Commitment to experimentation - I allowed time to test materials, layering processes, and image approaches, strengthening the development of my visual language.
3. Persistence - Even when technical or material problems occurred, I continued testing and troubleshooting until a solution emerged. This persistence allowed the work to evolve rather than stall.
Areas for Improvement:
Starting practical production earlier. I sometimes spend too long refining ideas before beginning physical work. Need to break projects into smaller weekly material goals so experimentation begins sooner.
Balancing experimentation with completion. While experimentation is valuable, it can slow progress if not structured. I need to set deadlines for material tests and move forward with the strongest outcomes rather than continuing indefinitely.
Managing workload across multiple tasks. Balancing life, research, writing, and studio work can sometimes create pressure near deadlines. I should use a project timeline.
TIMELINE
無 Mu / Between Footsteps
(Starting Week 4)
Week 4 – Concept Consolidation & Research & Cyanotype Testing
Focus: Clarifying the project framework.
Tasks:
Finalise project concept around 無 Mu / Between Footsteps.
Refine artist statement and project proposal.
Cyanotype workshop with Andy on Thursday.
Outcome:
Clear conceptual direction and research foundation.
Need to do more cyanotype testing to find the right material.
Week 5 – Image Selection & More Cyanotype Testing
Focus: Refining my photograph selection. Translating photographs into cyanotype.
Tasks:
Go through my archive of images that fit into my theme.
Test cyanotype printing on:
hessian
canvas
Experiment with:
exposure time
tonal contrast
layering multiple images.
Outcome
Understanding of material behaviour and image abstraction.
Outcome:
Initial body of photographic fragments.
Week 6 – Cyanotype Development
Focus: Scaling and refining cyanotype process.
Tasks
Produce larger cyanotype tests.
Evaluate abstraction vs recognisable imagery.
Test how photographic fragments emerge at different viewing distances.
Outcome
Final cyanotype method determined.
Week 7 – Focusing on body of work
Focus: Working on the cyanotype grids
Week 8-9 – Final Cyanotype Production
Focus: Creating final large-scale works.
Tasks
Produce large-scale cyanotypes on hessian or canvas.
Combine multiple photographic fragments.
Outcome
Completed cyanotype base images.
Week 10 – Grid Application
Focus: Paint the grid
Tasks:
Apply fluorescent grid across cyanotypes.
Outcome:
Final layered works.
Week 11 – Installation Testing
Focus: Viewer perception and spatial experience.
Tasks:
Hang works
Finalise artist statement.
Outcome:
Installation resolved.
Week 12 – Reflection & Documentation
Focus: Final review and marking. Finalising assessment materials.
Tasks:
Write reflective journal entry.
Photograph finished works.
Photograph installation.
Compile documentation of process.
Outcome:
Major project ready for submission.
