objects on a table

TASK: Collect a minimum of 3 meaningful objects to serve as the foundation for my new body of work to be shared and discussed in class.

Camera

Interruption

Witness

Suspension

Attention between steps

Recording my journey

My memory

The camera functions as a cognitive prosthetic. It captures the interval not only to observe uncertainty, but to retain it. As memory becomes unreliable, the camera becomes a tool of preservation. It records what might otherwise dissolve. It does not simply mark the act of seeing; it safeguards the moment against forgetting.

Hard Drive

Archive

Containment

Memory storage

Accumulation

Digital preservation

What is kept

What cannot be held physically

The hard drive suggests preservation against loss. It becomes the counterpoint to memory fragility, a technological archive intended to stabilise what the body may no longer reliably retain. Yet this preservation is not absolute. Hard drives fail. Files corrupt. Digital storage is itself vulnerable. The anxiety remains that both biological and technological memory can fracture. The archive offers resistance, but not certainty.

Converse Sneakers

Movement

Threshold

Negotiation

Fatigue

Persistence

Embodied navigation

The sneakers represent the body in motion. They anchor the project physically. They carry the weight of instability and the insistence to continue.

Painkillers

Management

Suppression

Endurance

Threshold of tolerance

Temporary relief

Body under pressure

Negotiated survival

The painkillers introduce the lived condition directly. They are quiet but central to the work’s reality. They signal that movement is not neutral; it is mediated.

Stamp with my name in Kanji

Identity

Authorship

Claiming presence

Cultural reference

Ritual marking

Inscription

Existence affirmed

The Kanji stamp is significant within the framework of mu. In Japanese tradition, personal seals (hanko) function as formal markers of identity and legitimacy. The stamp asserts presence. It counters erasure. It becomes a ritual affirmation: I was here.

Narrative

Together, these objects form an embodied system of survival.

The sneakers move.

The body negotiates pain.

Painkillers mediate endurance rather than remove pain.

The camera functions as a cognitive prosthetic, retaining moments that memory may not hold.

The hard drive preserves what instability threatens to erase.

The stamp asserts identity within uncertainty. The narrative becomes one of persistence under condition. Within the philosophical condition of mu (無), nothing resolves into permanence. This is not a story of resolution. It is a story of continuation between footsteps.
